- My Story -My story needs to be shared. (Yes, it’s all true)
Many years ago, a speeding drunk driver crossed into my lane.
Head-on collision. Estimated impact: 120 mph.Severe traumatic brain injury.
Two months in a coma. Nine months in hospitals.
Years of rehab.The other driver and his passenger were killed.This is the newspaper photo of my car. The X marks where I sat.
The injury permanently damaged my sense of balance.
I've lived with a serious disability for over 40 years.
I decided not to drive anymore.
My wife left me.
Severe TBI cases usually end in institutionalization or death.
But I'm still here!
Everything changed - my identity, purpose, and direction.
But one thing stayed the same!
I can't imagine a bigger lesson in
holding inner strength and staying positive!
I share my story to say 2 things:
— Never mix alcohol and driving.
— It is amazing that I'm alive. (And so for everyone!)Joel
